Mr. Sheahan Verghese is the founder of TLA [Tree of Life Associates], a boutique law firm with depth of understanding and domain expertise in Technology & Outsourcing, IP, Privacy law, Labour & Employment matters, and Start-Up legal offerings. Mr Verghese’s focused domains are employment, technology, outsourcing, transactional IP and privacy law and he is the Practice Head of these areas at TLA, Bangalore. However, he has significant experience in general corporate advisory, M&A and commercial contracts work and regularly advises clients on these practice areas as well. He has been in practice for fifteen years and has a law degree from the National Law School of India, Bangalore, the premier law institute in India.

Mr. Verghese specialises in cross-border and local technology deals and commercial contracts, including outsourcing, technology transfer and licensing transactions and cross border supply, sourcing and other commercial contracts that leverage India’s cost arbitrage and production efficiencies. He has significant experience in advising clients in the IT/BPO space on structuring their India entry, including by way of BOT, captive and joint venture structures, and advising on related compliance and operational issues. Mr. Verghese also advises IT and other clients, on their HR and employment legal infrastructure, covering all stages of the HR and employment life cycle. Further, he also advises on key management (executive) contracts, regular employment documentation and HR policy and employment issues in cross-border M&A. His experience includes advising on transactional IP, IP audit and management, in relation to patents, copyright, trade secrets and data protection in India, and protection of confidential information at the employee and corporate level.

Mr. Verghese also advises on privacy and data protection issues in the context of India’s recent privacy rules and deploys compliance audits, in primarily, the privacy, employment and IP space. As part of these audits, he assesses and maps compliance risks and evolves risk mitigation strategies that synergise with client business environments.
